How to Get Christina Aguilera’s Pink Hair

Christina Aguilera got her hair died bright pink on the ends of her extensions for The Voice, ho hum. I guess that’s why she wore that platinum bob wigon Sunday at the AMA’s, to cover up this new look.

The bright magenta color is nice, as are the on-trend very loose piece-y curls. But the bundle of weird braids on the the side made up from her extensions – questionable.  I think any of these elements of the hairstyle would look nice on its own, but when you bundle it all together….it’s too much.

But if you want her magenta color, here’s how to do it:

1. Use a cool-toned bleach on the areas you want to color – Xtina seems to have done just the tips, and then one or two pieces all the way to the roots. Don’t worry about making an even dip-dyed looking line, it’s nearly impossible, and it’ll look better if it’s not exact anyway. We like Wella Extra-Cool Blondor to strip out your natural pigment. The “extra cool” means that this lightening powder has blue tones in it, to neutralize any ugly oranges or yellows (which will affect how pretty of a magenta you get later). You’ll end up with a nice platinum color.

2. Rinse off the bleach, dry hair fully. Then apply a pigment toner like this one from Sally’s, in Magenta. Wrap the colored bits into a little bundle, and then cover in foil, to help the pigment take hold and prevent it from drying out or getting pink all over your house.

So whereas it matters how long you leave the bleach on, it almost doesn’t matter how long you leave the magenta on. It doesn’t contain harsh chemicals like the bleach, so you should leave it on for at least an hour+. If you wash it out, and still don’t think the color is bright enough, you can do the magenta again on dry hair, without damaging your hair. (don’t do the bleach more than once tho!!!)
